UIC Charters

At the frontier city of diversity, nine men persevered to aid the dreams of expanding Kappa Pi Beta Fraternity, Inc. In the winter of December 14, 2008, Kappa Pi Beta was expanded to the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Charters: Daniel Kim, Mateusz Greczek, Dexter Teng, Edmar Viloria, William Lui, Stefan Murakami, George Joseph, Richard Chang, and Antonio Martinez decided to build upon the ideals of our founding fathers. The foundation of this fraternity is built upon instilling and expressing gentlemen values that should not be forgotten. Fulfilling the values of this fraternity and paving way for other Asian-American organizations, we strive to strengthen and unify the Asian community. As brothers of Kappa Pi Beta, we shall not waver from the foundation of this fraternity.

As a new Greek Organization on campus, we are excited to have the opportunity to bring the values that Kappa Pi Beta stands for to the UIC community. Brothers of Kappa Pi Beta always seek to defy the the common stereotypes of fraternities, and seek to improve themselves in and outside of school. We strive to uphold our virutes of respect and discipline while maintining a high academic standard. Our goal is to help the community through community service, and spread Asian awarness while instilling leadership and gentleman values. Within the next few years, we hope to grow to become a major part of our community.

As a brother of Kappa Pi Beta, I will strive hard to further the existence of this great fraternity. I will do my best to bring forth a bond of unity to all of my fellow brothers that will stand the test of time. Along with the close relationships that are built, I pledge to promote academic excellence, brotherhood, cultural awareness, social mobility, philanthropy, gentlemen values, and respect towards the individual and community. Regardless of the letters I wear, what organization I am in, or national origin, I will set the example that unity is the ultimate beginning of brotherhood. I will use these attributes as development of my character and retain them even beyond my years of higher learning.

Serving the campus and the surrounding community is very important to the brothers of Kappa Pi Beta. Kappa Pi Beta is a service and social fraternity, meaning we understand that life is not perfect. It is up to us, the ones that are more able than others, to lend a helping hand and improve the situation; whether it be affecting one person, or a group of many. Kappa Pi Beta’s national philanthropy is type 2 diabetes. We work with the American Diabetes Association to spread awareness about diabetes, as well as raise money which sponsors further research. Although our major philanthropy events usually involve type 2 diabetes, we often look at our community to see what we can do to make it better. We participate in many community service events throughout the city that range from cleaning up the city streets to serving dinner at homeless shelters. As our fraternity here at UIC grows, we hope to have an even bigger impact in the community!

Being in a fraternity will always have its fun parties and social events, but we encourage you to ask any potential fraternities what they do to give back to the community. As college students, we believe that the experiences and knowledge we acquire during our years of higher learning should be put into to good use by helping others. Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” If you had the support and help of brothers, what change would you like to see?
